There are so many different types of paint that choosing one can be confusing unless you know a few definitions and a little about what’s in paint. All paints contain both a pigment and a vehicle. The pigment consists of coloring agents like white lead, titanium, or zinc. Oil-base paint dries by the evaporation of the solvent (turpentine or thinners) in the vehicle; a hard, glossy film is left behind.

With engineered hardwood comes an array of choices just like solid hardwood. Hickory, oak, bamboo, and maple are just a few of them. I would recommend engineered oak flooring because it’s a traditional yet elegant redwood finish and it’s slightly less expensive than the rest. Another elegant option for your home flooring needs is tile. With tile, the most popular choices are ceramic, porcelain, and stone. Ceramic is made from fired clay and gives your home a Greek or Roman atmosphere.

Ceramic is very affordable and still looks great. Stone tile can definitely get a little more expensive if you are looking at granite or onyx flooring, but these tiles can make your kitchen pop while still maintaining the natural look. Last, we have porcelain tile flooring originating from China thousands of years ago. These tiles seem to float because of their light and delicate appearance, but don’t be fooled because they are just as durable. When it comes to tile I would recommend stone for the kitchen and porcelain for the bathrooms. It will add sophistication to any home especially if you mix it with a beautifully finished hardwood floor.

If the nut and bolt have rusted, remove with a hacksaw and fit a new one.

Cast-iron work in bad condition should be replaced by one of the more modern materials. It is generally wise to replace all the old cast-iron guttering, although plastic gutters can be joined to old cast-iron ones. A variety of shapes and supports for plastic gutters and pipes is available to suit most houses. Always support plastic guttering at regular intervals – as specified by the manufacturer – otherwise it can bow and sag and water may overflow.

All guttering should be inspected periodically to make sure that it has not become blocked by leaves or silt washed from the roof. Use a trowel to get the rubbish out. If the trouble occurs frequently, it is worth fixing guards into the gutters. You can buy these or use pieces of wire or plastic netting bent to a half-round shape and jammed in the guttering so that they spring out and hold themselves in place.
